Biographical / Historical

余光中，1928年10月21日出生於南京，原籍福建永春。父親余超英，母親孫秀君。

1937年　抗日戰爭期間，隨母親流亡於江蘇和安徽一帶
1940年　入讀四川江北悅來場南京青年會中學
1947年　畢業於南京青年會中學後，進入金陵大學修讀外文系
1949年　轉讀廈門大學外文系二年級；開始於《星光》和《江聲》二報發表新詩和短評，後隨家人遷移香港
1950年　遷往臺灣，開始於《新生日報》、《中央日報》和《野風》等發表新詩。入讀臺灣大學外文系三年級
1952年　臺灣大學畢業，以第一名考進聯勤陸海空軍編譯人員訓練班。出版第一本詩集《舟子的悲歌》
1953年　入國防部總聯絡官室服役，任少尉編譯官
1954年　與覃子豪、鍾鼎文、夏菁和鄧禹平創「藍星詩社」
1956年　退役後分別在東吳大學和師範大學兼課；九月與范我存結婚
1958年　七月喪母。十月獲亞洲協會獎金赴美國進修，在愛荷華大學修文學創作、美國文學及現代藝術
1959年　獲愛荷華大學藝術碩士後，回臺任師範大學英語系講師
1961年　在《現代文學》發表長詩《天狼星》，並與洛夫論戰，發表《再見，虛無！》
60-70年代　先後任臺灣師範大學英語系教授和政治大學西語系系主任，曾兩度赴美講學
1974年　任香港中文大學中文系教授，至 1985 年止
1975年　任香港中文大學聯合書院中文系系主任
1980年　休假一年，回臺任師大英語系主任，兼英語研究所所長
1984年　譯作《不可兒戲》於 1984-1985 年間由香港話劇團演出
1985年　任高雄中山大學文學院院長兼外文研究所所長
1990年　獲選為中華民國筆會會長
1992年　父親逝世。擔任香港中文大學新亞書院「龔氏訪問學人」
1998年　廣電基金會拍攝影集「詩壇巨擘──余光中」。另香港 RTHK 電視台為香港文學節活動拍攝詩作《珍珠項鍊》影片
2001年　獲第2屆霍英東成就獎
2003年　獲香港中文大學頒予榮譽文學博士
2007年　獲國立臺灣大學頒授傑出校友
2008年　獲國立政治大學頒授名譽文學博士
2011年　獲國立中山大學頒授名譽文學博士
2017年　12月14日於台灣高雄醫學大學附設中和紀念醫院辭世

余光中曾獲多項文學獎，包括：
1962年　獲中國文藝協會新詩獎
1982年　《傳說》獲臺北市新聞局金鼎獎歌詞獎
1984年　獲第七屆「吳三連文學獎」散文獎；《小木屐》獲臺北市新聞局金鼎獎之歌詞獎
1985年　獲《中國時報》新詩推薦獎
1989年　主編的《中華現代文學大系──臺灣：1970-1989》獲金鼎獎圖書類主編獎
1990年　《夢與地理》詩集獲「中華民國第十五屆國家文藝獎」新詩獎
1991年　獲「美西華人學會」頒贈「文學成就獎」
1994年　《從徐霞客到梵谷》獲得《聯合報》「讀書人」最佳書獎
1998年　獲文工會第一屆五四獎的「文學交流獎」、中山大學「傑出教學獎」、中華民國「斐陶斐傑出成就獎」、行政院新聞局「國際傳播獎章」及散文集《日不落家》獲《聯合報》「讀書人」最佳書獎
1999年　獲《中國時報》「吳魯芹散文獎」
2000年　高雄市文藝獎；以詩集《高樓對海》獲得《聯合報》「讀書人」最佳書獎
2012年　獲元智大學頒授「桂冠文學家」
2015年　二月獲臺灣第 34 屆行政院「文化獎」
