Includes two manuscript versions of "The Twirling Duet: A Dance Narrative from Northeast China", by Rulan Chao Pian. The paper describes a performance of "Yang Ba Jiee You Chuen" by two characters, maid (dann) and clown (choou) and the music, discusses the relationship between the story and the music, and the genesis of the twirling duet. Includes in appendix an English translation of the lyrics of《楊八姐遊春》under title "Sister Yang No. 8 Goes for a Spring Outing" (Note 2)
