Biographical / Historical

蔡德允（1905-2007）生於浙江湖州，兩歲時隨父親移居上海，後入讀蔡氏家族創辦和經營的上海湖州旅滬公學，自小學習書法詩詞與音樂。1922年於南洋女子師範學校畢業後留校任教，1924年入讀慕爾堂高等專修學校。1928年與沈鴻來結婚。1937年抗日戰爭全面爆發，沈鴻來被派往香港鹽務局分支辦公室任職，蔡德允便與兒子沈鑒治一同前往香港。一次鹽務局聚會中認識了沈鴻來的同事沈草農（（1891-1973），號琴戡，浙江蕭山人），並向其習琴。1942年回上海，至1950年舉家再次移居香港。在港參加不少雅集及國樂演奏會。1964年受聘為新亞書院國樂會的古琴導師，以口授心傳的方式教授古琴，潘重規、劉楚華、蘇思棣、謝俊仁、謝廷光、屈志仁、胡菊人等均是她的學生。1998年，其學生成立「德愔琴社」，傳承她的琴藝與藝術精神。2005年蔡德允百歲嵩壽，德愔琴社舉辦了一系列演講、演奏會和雅集祝壽。2006年獲香港浸會大學頒授榮譽大學院士。

著有《愔愔室琴譜》，當中包括《平沙落雁》、《梅花三弄》、《瀟湘水雲》、《胡笳十八拍》等，另有文稿結集《愔愔室詩詞文稿》。
