Biographical / Historical
The Office of the Arts Administrator was established in the 2000s to strengthen the coordination and development of arts activities at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Upon its establishment, the Office assumed responsibility for planning, organizing, and promoting arts programmes at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, the University’s multi‑purpose auditorium opened in 1981. Through this transition, the Office became the primary unit managing the Hall’s artistic functions and shaping its role as a cultural hub on campus.
The Office’s mandate includes supporting students’ holistic development by providing educational opportunities in the arts and enhancing the cultural environment of the University. In 2009, it introduced the Student Cultural Ambassador Scheme, which subsidizes student attendance at arts events and fosters cultural exchange through regular meetings. The Office also oversees the “CU Culture Trail” Guided Tour, designed to encourage students and visitors to explore the campus’s cultural and natural heritage. In addition, it publishes Embark, the University’s monthly arts calendar, to promote arts programming and cultivate campus-wide engagement with the arts.
