Biographical / Historical

1968年聯合國遠東經濟委員會在釣魚台列島所在海域勘測，發現石油蘊藏，引起中國大陸、台灣、日本注意。1970年，美國和日本達成協議，會在1972年歸還琉球群島，同時將釣魚台群島劃入歸還範圍，觸發各地華人展開大規模保衛釣魚台運動。在美國華僑舉行保衛釣魚台示威後，香港亦於1971年2月成立保衛釣魚台行動委員會，同月18日發動第一次抗議行動。及後其他保釣組織相繼成立，包括：香港專上學生聯會：保衛釣魚台研究及行動委員會、香港保衛釣魚台臨時行動委員會、五四行動委員會、中學生行動委員會等，以示威、出版刊物、舉辦論壇、抵制日貨大會等方式，表達保衛釣魚台的訴求。 1971年6月美國和日本正式簽署《沖繩返還協定》。此後，香港以及中國大陸、台灣等地仍舉行多次民間保釣活動。
