Biographical / Historical

北島 (Bei Dao),原名趙振開,另有筆名石默、艾珊和李平。祖籍浙江湖州,1949 年 8 月 2 日生於北京。高中就讀北京四中,因文革中斷學業,1969-1980 年間擔任北京第六建築公司工人,1980 至 1985 年間先後於《新觀察》和《中國報道》擔任編輯。其後曾短暫於飛達公司擔任翻譯。1970 年開始寫作,1978 年與芒克等人創辦文學刊物《今天》(1980 年停刊,1990 年於挪威復刊)。自從詩作《回答》刊載於「中國作家協會」主辦的《詩刊》(1979 年 3 月號)以後,就被公認為朦朧詩代表人之一,作品被翻譯為三十多種文字。

1987 年前往英國杜倫大學 (University of Durham) 擔任訪問學人一年,1988 年參加愛荷華大學 (University of Iowa) 「國際寫作計劃」(International Writing Program),1989 年移居國外,於歐美多所大學任教或擔任駐校作家,包括丹麥奧爾胡斯大學 (University of Aarhus)、荷蘭萊頓大學 (Leiden University)、美國加州大學戴維斯分校 (University of California at Davis)、阿拉巴馬大學 (University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa)、聖母大學 (University of Notre Dame) 和伯洛伊特學院 (Beloit College) 等。2007 年秋開始於香港中文大學任教,並於 2009 年開始,舉辦每兩年一度的「香港國際詩歌之夜」(International Poetry Nights in Hong Kong)

曾獲獎項及榮譽學位有瑞典筆會圖霍夫斯基獎 (Swedish PEN Tucholsky Prize) (1990)、美國藝術文學院 (American Academy of Arts and Letters) 榮譽院士 (1996)、古根海姆獎 (Guggenheim Fellowship) (1998)、美國布朗大學 (Brown University) 榮譽文學博士學位 (2011)、馬其頓斯特魯加國際詩歌節 (Struga International Poetry Festival) 金花環獎 (Golden Wreath Award) (2015) 和瑞典 Cikada Prize (2015) 等。

自 1978 年自行油印出版詩集《陌生的海灘》以後,於中國大陸、台灣、香港等地出版多本著作,包括詩集、散文集、小説集等,有《波動》(1985)、《歸來的陌生人》(1986)、《北島詩選》(1987)、《北島詩集》(1988)、《在天涯》(1993)、《午夜歌手》(1995)、《零度以上的風景》(1996)、《藍房子》(1998)、《開鎖》(1999)、《午夜之門》(2002)、《北島詩歌集》(2003)、《失敗之書》(2004)、《時間的玫瑰》(2005)、《青燈》(2006)、《結局或開始》(2008)、《守夜》(2009)、《城門開》(2010)、《過冬》(2011)、《古老的敵意》(2012) 等。翻譯成英語出版的著作有《Notes from the City of the Sun》(1983)、《Waves》(1985)、《The August Sleepwalker》(1988) 和《Old Snow》(1991) 等。此外,還翻譯出版《北歐現代詩選》(1987) 和參與編輯《七十年代》(2008)、《暴風雨的記憶》(2011) 和《給孩子的詩》(2015) 等書。
